PHENOLIC COTTON CLOTH LAMINATEDSHEETS

Phenolic Cotton Cloth Laminated Sheets (Textolite), also known as High-performance thermoset laminates, are made by impregnating layers of woven cotton cloth with phenolic resin.

These layers combine to form a stiff, thick sheet under high temperatures and pressures. The phenolic resin matrix adds dimensional stability and chemical resistance, while the woven cotton reinforcement offers superior mechanical strength, wear resistance, and impact resistance.

What are the advantages and benefits of Phenolic Cotton Cloth Sheets?

1、 Adaptable Machining

can be easily twisted, machined, drilled, and tapped, making it possible to fabricate complex components.

2、 Sturdy Mechanical Performance

Perfect for mechanical components that are prone to wear and dynamic stresses.

3、 Oil and Chemical Resistance

It can be used in settings that contain fuels, lubricants, or mild acids or bases.

4、 Equilibrium Electrical Insulation

G10/FR4 (glass-epoxy) may be too high for many lower-voltage applications.

5、 Adaptable: offered in customized sizes, finishes, and thicknesses.

6、 A decrease in vibration and noise

Compared to more durable materials like metals or glass-based laminates, cotton fabric structures are more effective in reducing noise.

7、 Noise reduction: lessens mechanical system vibrations.

8、 Economical

While still providing adequate performance, they are usually less expensive than laminates made of glass fiber and some engineered polymers.

What applications are Phenolic Cotton Cloth Sheets used for?

1、Work surfaces, assembly guides, or clamping fixtures that require durability and machinability are examples of industrial jigs and fixtures.

2、Gears, bearings, bushings, wear pads, jigs, and support blocks are examples of mechanical components.

3、Components in textile and paper mills are subjected to wear and repetitive friction.

4、Electrical equipment includes coil supports, terminal boards, switchgear components, and low- to medium-voltage insulating parts.

5、Construction includes dividers and decorative panels.

6、Automotive & Rail: Clutch plates, brake linings, or other friction elements (in specific grades).

7、Handles, tea trays, and kitchenware are examples of consumer goods.

8、Marine and heavy equipment are structural elements that need to be durable and resistant to moisture.

How to store and handle Phenolic Cotton Cloth Sheets?

1、 Precautions for Handling

When handling, especially in electrical applications, wear gloves to keep surfaces clean and avoid contamination.

2、 The Storage Setting

Keep out of direct sunlight and in a dry, well-ventilated place. Over time, moisture absorption may increase due to high humidity.

3、 Lifespan

There is no set expiration date for phenolic laminates. However, their mechanical and electrical qualities may be impacted by prolonged storage in unfavorable environments. If kept for long periods of time, periodically check.

4、 Control of Temperature

Sheets should be kept in a temperature-stable environment (preferably between 10 and 30°C). Dimensional alterations could result from extreme swings.

5、 Supported and Flat Stacking

To avoid bending or warping, store sheets horizontally with adequate support. Don't put too much weight on top.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question 1: Are these sheets suitable for applications involving food contact?

A: In general, direct food contact is not intended for phenolic laminates.

Question 2: Can laminated sheets made of phenolic cotton fabric be used outside?

A: They can be used outside, although over time, continuous exposure to high humidity and UV rays may cause some deterioration. Selecting a grade with moisture-resistant qualities or sealing or coating the laminate can be beneficial.

Question 3: Are laminated sheets made of phenolic cotton cloth suitable for usage in high-temperature settings?

A: Standard grades usually run continuously at temperatures between 120 and 140°C. It is advised to use alternate laminates (such as glass-fiber-based) or special high-temperature phenolic grades for greater temperatures.

Question 4: What sizes and thicknesses are offered?

A:The typical thicknesses are between 0.5 and 100 mm or more. 1020 × 1220 mm, 1220 × 2440 mm, or bespoke measurements upon request are common standard sheet sizes.

Question 5: What distinguishes paper-based phenolic laminate from phenolic cotton fabric laminate?

A: The cotton cloth laminate (Textolite) offers improved impact resistance and increased mechanical strength by using woven fabric as the reinforcing material. In contrast to cotton cloth laminates, paper-based phenolic, also referred to as Bakelite sheets, uses layers of paper and provides superior electrical insulation but less mechanical strength.
