Details

Silicone Coated Fiberglass Cloth is a high-performance composite material manufactured by coating or impregnating high-quality E-glass fiber cloth with specially formulated silicone rubber (single-sided or double-sided).

Silicone Coated Fiberglass Cloth exhibits excellent thermal stability, chemical resistance, and mechanical properties, making it widely applicable in various industrial and commercial fields requiring heat protection, insulation, and corrosion resistance. The operating temperature range of this product is -70°C to 300°C, with short-term resistance to higher temperatures under specific conditions.

Manufacturing Process:

1.Fiberglass yarns are woven into fabric;

2.Fabric is heat-cleaned and treated with coupling agents;

3.Liquid silicone rubber (LSR) or high-consistency rubber (HCR) is applied via knife-over-roll, dip-coating, or calender processes;

4.Material passes through a multi-zone heated curing oven to achieve full cross-linking (vulcanization);

5.Final inspection and slitting.

How many types of silicone coated fiberglass cloth are there?

By Coating Side

-Single-Sided Silicone Coated Fiberglass Cloth: Silicone rubber coated on one side of the E-glass fiber cloth. Features cost-effectiveness and is suitable for scenarios requiring one-way heat insulation or protection. Common applications include simple heat shields, temporary protective covers.

-Double-Sided Silicone Coated Fiberglass Cloth: Silicone rubber coated on both sides. Offers symmetrical performance, better heat resistance and chemical resistance, and is widely used in high-demand applications such as insulation jackets, expansion joints, and welding curtains.

By Silicone Type

-Wet-Type Silicone Coated Fiberglass Cloth: Coated with solvent-based silicone rubber, featuring strong adhesion and good flexibility. Suitable for general industrial applications with moderate environmental requirements.

-Dry-Type Silicone Coated Fiberglass Cloth: Coated with solid silicone rubber via calendering process, having higher silicone content, better wear resistance and high-temperature stability. Ideal for high-precision and harsh-environment applications such as aerospace and high-temperature pipeline insulation.

What advantages and benefits does silicone coated fiberglass cloth have compared to other material cloths?

Material

Advantages of Silicone Coated Fiberglass

Uncoated Fiberglass Cloth

Waterproof, less skin-irritating, improved dielectric, sealed edges won't fray, more durable.

PVC-Coated Fiberglass

Much higher temperature rating, more flexible at low temps, non-toxic smoke, better UV/weathering.

PTFE-Coated Fiberglass

More flexible, better low-temp performance, lower cost, easier to seam/sew, better bondability.

Silicone Rubber Sheet (neat)

Far higher strength (reinforced), less stretch, lower cost for equivalent thickness, better dimensional stability.

Ceramic Fiber Cloth

More flexible, stronger, waterproof, and does not produce harmful respirable fibers.

Industrial Processing: Expansion joint seals, flexible couplings, furnace and oven door gaskets, thermal insulation for pipes/tanks.

Emergency Services: Lightweight heat shields, fire rescue blankets (supplemental).

How to store and handle silicone coated fiberglass cloth?

No special storage precautions are required, but the following recommendations are provided to ensure product performance:

1. Store in a dry, cool, and well-ventilated warehouse, avoiding direct sunlight, high temperatures (exceeding 40°C), and high humidity (relative humidity > 80%).

2. Protect the product from contamination by oil, chemicals, and sharp objects to avoid damaging the silicone coating.

3. Store the product in rolls or flat sheets, avoiding folding for long periods to prevent permanent creases or coating damage.

4. The recommended storage period is 12 months from the date of production when stored under the above conditions. If stored beyond this period, performance testing is recommended before use.

5. There are no special restrictions on mixed storage with other non-corrosive, non-toxic products.

FAQ

Q1: Can silicone coated fiberglass cloth be washed or sterilized?

A: Yes. It can be wiped clean, steam-cleaned, or autoclaved (up to 135°C/275°F) repeatedly without degradation. Avoid abrasive scrubs that may damage the surface.

Q2: How do I select the right weight and type of silicone coated fiberglass cloth for my application?

A: Please follow this guide below:

* Lightweight (180-300gsm): For draping over sensitive equipment, flexible wraps.

* Medium (300-600gsm): 90% of applications—welding blankets, general covers, gaskets.

* Heavy (600+gsm): For permanent, high-abrasion installations (e.g., furnace curtains).

* Plain Weave: For flat surfaces and cost-sensitive projects.

* Twill/Satin Weave: For complex 3D shapes requiring excellent drape.

Q3: Is silicone coated fiberglass cloth safe? Does it contain asbestos?

A: It is completely asbestos-free. The fiberglass is locked within the silicone matrix, significantly reducing the risk of airborne fibers. During cutting or abrasion, standard precautions (mask, gloves, ventilation) should be taken as with any composite material.

Q4: What's the difference between "silicone coated" and "silicone impregnated"?

A: Coated has a continuous surface film of silicone on one or both sides, making it fully waterproof and non-porous. Impregnated has silicone forced into the weave but does not form a continuous film, leaving a more fabric-like feel and some breathability.

Q5: What colors of silicone coated fiberglass cloth are available for the product?

A: Red is the standard color. Other colors (e.g., black, white, blue, green) are available upon request. Custom color matching is also supported for large-volume orders.

Q6: Can silicone coated fiberglass cloth be customized into specific shapes or sizes?

A: Yes. We provide cutting, sewing, and molding services according to customer drawings or samples. Common customized products include insulation jackets for specific equipment, shaped fire blankets, and seamless conveyor belt covers.
