930100 POM Sheets

The key features:

-High mechanical strength: outstanding rigidity and stiffness.

-Low Friction: Self-lubricating, with a 0.1–0.3 coefficient of friction.

-Dimensional Stability: Low thermal expansion and minimal moisture absorption (0.2–0.3%).

-Chemical Resistance: susceptible to strong acids and bases, but resistant to alcohols, solvents, and hydrocarbons.

-Wear Resistance: Perfect for sections that move.

Low-voltage applications can benefit from electrical insulation.

POM (ACETAL) SHEETS

Repeating formaldehyde units make up POM (polyoxymethylene), a high-performance engineering thermoplastic. POM sheets, also referred to as acetal sheets, are renowned for their accuracy, robustness, and wear resistance. Often called acetal, it comes in two varieties: homopolymer (like DuPont's Delrin®) and copolymer, which are distinguished by their molecular makeup and functionality.

How many types of POM sheets are there?

-Colors: Custom, black, and natural (white/cream).

-Higher strength, stiffness, and resistance to wear are characteristics of homopolymers, such as Delrin.

-Copolymer: Improved resistance to hydrolysis and thermal and chemical stability.

Technical Specifications:

-Shore D Hardness: 80–85.

-Tensile strength: 50–60 MPa for copolymers and 60–70 MPa for homopolymers.

-40–75% elongation at break.

- Melting points for homopolymers and copolymers are 175°C and 165°C, respectively.

-10–15 × 10⁻¹/°C is the thermal expansion coefficient.

-1.41–1.42 g/cm³ is the density.

-The temperature range for continuous service is -50°C to 100°C.

What are the advantages and benefits of POM sheets?

-There are grades for food contact that are FDA-compliant.

-Better resilience to creep than nylon.

-Tight tolerances and excellent machinability.

-Reasonably priced for precision parts.

What applications are POM sheets used for?

1、 Medical: non-sterilizing insulin pens and inhalers.

2、 Automobile: Door handles, gears, and fuel system parts.

3、 Electrical: connections and insulators.

4、 Consumer electronics: locks, zippers, and printer components.

5、Conveyor belts, gears, and bearings are examples of industrial equipment.

How to store and handle POM sheets?

1、Avoid UV light, acids, and oxidizers.

2、 Store in dry (RH <50%) and cool (<30°C) conditions;

3、 To avoid warping, stack sheets flat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question1: What about POM Sheets' chemical compatibility?

Answer: Steer clear of strong acids and bases; resistant to the majority of fuels and solvents

Question2: What distinguishes PTFE sheets from POM sheets?

Answer: POM sheets are more stiff and strong than PTFE sheets, but they also cause more friction.

Question3: Can POM sheets be glued or welded?

Answer: Low surface energy makes it difficult; mechanical fastening is preferred.

Question4: What about POM Sheets' UV resistance?

Answer: Poor; for outdoor usage, they need protective coatings or UV-stabilized grades.

Question5: What distinguishes nylon sheets from POM sheets?

Answer: When compared to nylon sheets, POM sheets have superior creep resistance and less moisture absorption.

Question6: Are POM sheets safe to eat?

Answer: Indeed, there are grades that are FDA-compliant.
